Bravely Default follows the story of main character Tiz, a humble shepherd and the lone survivor of a cataclysmic event, as he joins a group of loyal companions on a journey to restore balance to the world. The battle system is what differentiates Bravely Default from other RPGs. Here players can strategically choose when to initiate two complementary commands: Brave and Default. This innovative system encourages players to think carefully about strategy during every enemy encounter. Selecting "Brave" lets players increase the number of actions a character can take in a turn, while "Default" allows players to store actions for later use. Read less

Beat 1x, shorter ending. Liked the characters, classes, and environments but found the game too grindy and repetitive to play all the way to the "good" ending. The battle system felt like 4 Heroes of Light but overcomplicated (liked that the previous game had no traditional MP) and less stylus-friendly. Not sure how I feel about Bravely Default. I definitely like it, but I'm not sure if I like it more or less than FF5 at the moment.

I wanted to like this game so badly, but the repetition bounced me from the game. I just couldn't finish because it got so hopelessly tedious. It was great until halfway through the second repeat, and then it just died.

And now I understand why the latter half of this game gets such a bad rap..

New plan! Skip the optional bosses. Let's just zoom through this

Frequent updates on this to prove to myself I'm still making progress

I'm in time jump #1
Optional boss fights I completed this weekend: Performer, Salve maker, Swordmaster, Ninja, Valk, Hunter

Just two? optional boss fights and one crystal left before I get the plot rolling a bit more. (And then get to do all this over again? weeeee)

As i work through the remaining (optional) boss fights before proceeding with the plot, I have come to the conclusion that I really need to work on my defense. I get hit way too hard and it's ANNOYING
I bought the best armor I could from the adventurer that is perpetually standing around everywhere for my two physical attackers, but …

I gave up on this game. I just couldn't. I love JRPGs, but it seems like I'm kind of done with the old school style. Overworld, air ships, etc. Also, everything after chapter 4 is bullshit.

After sinking 40 hours into Story of Seasons I decided it was time to come back to Bravely Default and... man... I'm just not feeling it for some reason. I'm not lost. Thanks to super helpful quest markers and my dutiful fairy companion on the menu screen I remember exactly what I was doing. The problem is I just... don't... care.

I just finished Breath of Fire II and Bravely Default's story and characters just seem bland in comparison, and I'm starting to wonder if the game's near-perfect mechanics were really the only thing keeping me interested.

I don't feel like fighting my wife over Rune Factory 4, so maybe I'll finally pick up Fire Emblem Awakening...

I can't tell if setting 100% Encounter Rate + Auto + 4x Speed is a godsend or blatant cheating, but I don't really care either! Viva la hyper grinding!

Also the sheer Final Fantasyness of it all is just fantastic. I don't know why, but of all the games it invokes FF9 for me the most, though I could see arguments for 3, 12 and Tactics. Not the systems or anything, just the feel of it all.

Exhausted from playing all three Danganronpa games back to back to back and desperate for something new and different I popped Bravely Default into the 3DS, eager to finally play it for the first time ever!

*game immediately establishes themes of hope versus despair*

Okay, okay, common themes for RPG's... no big deal...

*main character is voiced by Bryce Papenbrook*

GOD DAMNIT!

Um.. yeah that Chapter 5 twist is a doozy. I think they were like, "this is the 30 hour point, how can we double game time without creating more assets"?! The end result: shameless fluff. The worst thing about it is that I don't even mind it. I think *re-experiencing* some of the character bits in a new light is kind of amusing. Since the plot is pretty terrible, the character interactions have carried the game for me anyways. It is kind of unnecessary and I can see how some people didn't take too kindly to it.

Spoiler: In Chapter 5, you're taken back in time and forced to re-do all of the Crystal Awakening stuff again and you're also given the option to re-fight all of the games bosses, who are all somehow...slightly different versions of their previous selves. It brings the main plot to a screeching halt since you've already done this stuff and the main cast just continues to remain bewildered for most of the process. I hope it's not something I grow tired of since there's a lot to do again before the story can move in whatever direction it's headed. Who knows what direction that is since the plot has become convoluted and weird.
