Bravely Default follows the story of main character Tiz, a humble shepherd and the lone survivor of a cataclysmic event, as he joins a group of loyal companions on a journey to restore balance to the world. The battle system is what differentiates Bravely Default from other RPGs. Here players can strategically choose when to initiate two complementary commands: Brave and Default. This innovative system encourages players to think carefully about strategy during every enemy encounter. Selecting "Brave" lets players increase the number of actions a character can take in a turn, while "Default" allows players to store actions for later use. Read less

A gorgeous game with a cast of fun and well-voiced characters (if not somewhat typical for the genre) and stunning music to match; I had high hopes for this title. A gorgeous game with a cast of fun and well-voiced characters (if not somewhat typical for the genre) and stunning music to match; I had high hopes for this title. However, the exasperating "your princess is in another castle" gameplay pattern that emerges after the first chapter is a serious let-down. I felt slightly hoodwinked into playing on in the conviction that they couldn't possibly make me do everything again, again, right?!

Granted, many of the repeat tasks are optional, but after a certain point the game offers little that's new in terms of gameplay, plot - even dialogue. Extra quests and activities should enrich the gaming experience, not drain the life out of it. Unless you get a kick out of recycled mega bosses and grind-fests, in which case this could be the game for you.

You are rewarded with some intriguing character revelations, but it all gets a bit lost in the sheer repetition of it all. You might say that the meat of this game is in the tactical battling and character class system (there's also a pretty cool "buildable village" for unlocking new items). However, I would've preferred these elements in a more well-rounded diet of plot progression and varied content.

Having said all this, I nevertheless ferreted out every last damn quest, but I'm not sure if that says more about my completionistic tendencies or the compulsivity of the game itself.

This ranger I got going over here is pretty sweet. I love this game because I'm able to get in short burst play sessions real easy during the week when I don't have a lot of time. It helps that it's been really good so far too.

This game is just addictive. I can't believe this is the first JRPG I've played that lets you adjust the encounter rate. That's probably the most underrated feature of this game. I was kind of stuck in a dungeon with most of my magic used up, and I didn't have any ethers in my inventory. So instead of having to …

This game is just addictive. I can't believe this is the first JRPG I've played that lets you adjust the encounter rate. That's probably the most underrated feature of this game. I was kind of stuck in a dungeon with most of my magic used up, and I didn't have any ethers in my inventory. So instead of having to barely make my way out of the dungeon, I turned encounters off, ran out of the dungeon and went to an inn at the town nearby. Came back and finished the dungeon. True story.

I haven't been on Grouvee for so long ;-; That could just be because I haven't been playing a lot of games recently, other than LoL. I'm back into playing Bravely Default though and utterly addicted again so I'll be around here a lot more often.

First impressions: this game is old school Final Fantasy in every way except its name. If you like to gamble a little bit, the Brave/Default battle system is pretty awesome.
