This is a visual novel with limited player interaction. I have not read the book or seen the film, so I went in blind. The story is slow paced (really slow, you need to sit down with these people, have a drink with them and listen) and is more of a slice of life for rich men in Britain and the colonies in 1914, with some spy shenanigans thrown in, rather than a thriller. At times, especially in the silent movie parts of the game (filmed as black and white paper cut scenes), it is slapstick like and had me laughing out loud several times despite the seriousness of what was happening and a looming real war.

I thought the voice acting was very good, especially the different accents, and I loved the "sightseeing" part of Scotland in the 1914s. The use of sound and light to create different moods and immerse you into the situation is very well made.

The visual novel is very short, about 4 hours, and I only give it four stars because I struggled so much with the game mechanics in the beginning. I strongly recommend not to use mouse gestures to proceed in the story but only the ones painted on the screen, just use the arrow keys to go back and forth in the story. And don't overthink what you're doing. Once I let go of the idea that this was a game with gameplay and realised that it was an interactive book, everything was fine.
