Just beat this game on my new retro handheld Anbernic RG34XX which looks almost exactly like the OG GBA, but with a gorgeous 720x480 screen that can do 3x integer scaling. It was an absolute blast.
I was planning to play Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion first but randomly started this game and couldn't stop. The sprites are beautiful. The level designs are so uniquely charming. Each level has its own setting, providing a great variety. Just like Super Mario Bros, this game is full of secrets and they rewards your curiosity and creativity. I love the escape sequence of each level and each level has secret tricks or sequence that you can do to shorten the escape time. All of these couple with RetroAchivement is really bringing the whole experience of playing old GBA games to the next level. The whole experience has convinced me that playing games on retro handhelds are superior to playing on the original hardware, at least for GBA, but really for many systems, except perhaps DS and 3DS.
Wario Land 4 gave me so much surprises that I decided to play "hidden gems" kinds of games before playing "the best games" like Metroids, Zelda, Advance Wars, Golden Sun, etc. My next game is Astro Boy Omega Factor.
