Solid action-rpg, although I did like Secret of Mana better (could be nostalgia). Decent length with fine combat and colorful environments. The story, characters, and npc dialogue was very generic, which held it back from a higher rating. Would recommend on sale for those that like light-hearted action rpgs.

This was a fun relaxing whirl. I enjoyed the simplicity of the real time combat system. The English voice acting was not the best tbh, but it was a charming throwback to rpgs of yore. Character designs are fun, good variety of monsters. Would've liked to see a bestiary in the journal. A fun quick play is recommend to anyone.

Calling this one a wrap. Got the platinum trophy and beat all route's bosses on Expert. Archdemon (Riesz/Hawkeye) definitely the hardest. I might revisit someday to do a No Future difficulty run through, but I'm done for now. I might revisit someday to do a No Future difficulty run through, but I'm done for now. It's a really nice, no nonsense remake of the original and improves upon it in every way, but despite there being three different boss paths, there's only so much game here to sustain multiple runs, and it wears pretty thin somewhere in the middle of the second one when you realize you're doing the exact same everything.

I'm on Angela's path, playing on Expert difficulty. It's been crappy, but I just got to Zable Fahr and could not beat it. These group-wipe-unless-you-kill-some-totem-in-time things are almost impossible in these bosses on Expert. I can't get Riesz to cast her dang support spells. And Angela never uses the strongest magic that any enemy is weak to. I'm mostly controlling …

These group-wipe-unless-you-kill-some-totem-in-time things are almost impossible in these bosses on Expert. I can't get Riesz to cast her dang support spells. And Angela never uses the strongest magic that any enemy is weak to. I'm mostly controlling Duran and healing and using items while the other two die, then I clean up their mess.

I had to turn it back down to hard. And I beat it in like twenty seconds, because my lowest level character is 81. 🙄 It's fine if it's difficult, it's not fun if it's impossible.

We'll see how the rest of the game goes back on Expert... Not looking forward to the probably aptly named "no future" difficulty.

I also need to say, Faerie is the shittiest sidekick I've ever seen in a game. She has next to no "power," and everything she makes us do actively works towards the bad guy's favor. Are we sure she's not the villain? The team should have let the enemies keep her instead of handing over the sword.

ETA: One thought for the crazy hard difficulties is, they should let you do the fourth class change before the post game. That would be great.

Okay, I'm at the part where you fight the Benevodons. This remake improves on the original in every sense, it's great, and fighting is actually kind of fun now. The soundtrack is EXACTLY how SqEn should handle these remakes. Take the original, use real instruments and modern tech, and leave it at that. No new arrangements, no remixes, just make the music better. Looking at you, FF Pixel Remasters, and looking at you REAL HARD Secret of Mana remake...

I'm playing on Hard, which is... well, hard, but manageable, and forcing me to learn the mechanics of the new fighting and combo system better. Some of these bosses, though, yikes. The door boss in Laurent just relentlessly assaulted me for five minutes until somehow, some shred of someone broke through the onslaught and won. The only thing that bugs me is the camera, I wish it was automated even a little bit to frame the action better. Some fights wind up really close to the foreground, almost entirely out of the range of sight, and that's silly.

Looks like this will hit PS Plus Extra and Premium next week. Very nice because I’ve been wanting to play it but hesitant to purchase.

It's my favorite so far in the series, but playing multiple stories and going for the Platinum sadly brought down the experience. I love how you can pick different characters and see how they all come together.

I’ve finally unlocked classes and now I can give Reisz a cooler outfit that’s way less ridiculous. Oh and I guess she gets some extra abilities and stuff but I’m all about that outfit.

This game is actually pretty good so far. I'm enjoying it more than I thought. I might have to bump the difficulty down from normal to easy, though, because I'm using so many damn heals in these boss fights and I feel like I'm just wasting items.

Also, I can't wait to change Riesz's oufit. At first I thought it was cool because it was green, but I didn't look close enough at how outrageous it is - especially around the chest. This outfit is not physically possible to look this cute and stay in place, sorry guys.

I see that this is another instalment in SquareEnix’s series of ugly remakes of the Seiken Densetsu games. Thank god the original was finally released outside Japan. The demo is enjoyable enough from a mechanical standpoint but the world feels barren and the characters look like the bare minimum was done by the design department. I suppose this is a criticism I can levy against many JRPGs that seem to sit comfortably in the realm of generic styling and aesthetics. I made the mistake of buying Adventures of Mana before playing it and I’m glad I didn’t do that here. I wish that a 3D remake of any of these games had even a meagre degree of style on par with the original games. I miss later games in the series like Legend of Mana, a game that admittedly receives very mixed reviews, because there is a level of artistic expression that is completely lost in these remakes. The remakes feel soulless in comparison to the legacy of design present in the older Seiken Densetsu/Mana games.

Finished the (very generous!) demo. My team was Riesz, Duran, and Angela but the demo ends right before you get the third companion. I’ve looked into the branching paths and it looks like I should have chosen Hawkeye to go with Riesz, but oh well. The camera is annoying, though the graphics are nice, combat is familiar but fun, and the redone score is very well done (I like it more than the Secret of Mana remake’s score which was like a remix album by different artists). Super excited to play the full release!

Please tell me if I’m wrong. But is the fact there’s no “auto” camera in this insane? I’m playing the demo and you have total control over the camera, and if you want, you can stop and reset the camera (which breaks the action). But it doesn’t just follow you and that seems so unfortunate. Otherwise I’m having fun with …

The combat system is a ton of a fun and I love the remastering of the music. Graphics are gorgeous as always and the screen is busy, but in a good way. It seems like a nice lil' RPG with fun characters. Definitely got some Xenoblade Chronicles 2 vibes from it.

I'll still pick this up, just wish I could start playing sooner! Got a little one coming in June so I need to bang out any last RPGs I want to tackle!
