It's only $3, probably just get it if you're interested

Super Kiwi 64 is a fun throwback to the simple 3D collectathon platformers of the 90's. That's a type of game that's relatively hit or miss for me, sometimes feeling a bit odd to control, tedious, just generally losing my interest by the end. Well this game has none of those problems, as it took only about 45 minutes to clear out its 8 levels, and it controls very smoothly aside from its slow-moving camera.
It captures the nostalgic aesthetics of the N64 quite well, especially in the music which has a few really solid tracks. There's also some odd unexpected stuff thrown in there too which I won't spoil. The levels are all pretty enjoyable and have a few gimmicks that I liked. And I think the platforming mechanics overall are very well-done, giving you a good balance of speed, verticality, and precise control.
It's very simple, a bit lacking in challenge and scope, which is to its benefit in some sense, but ultimately is one of the things holding it back from a higher rating among the big dogs of the platformer genre. Perhaps with a bit stronger of a personality and a bit more depth in what was here, I could have looked past that. I still think that for what it is and the price it's up for, it's very nice.
