Taylor: -attempts to get some well-deserved sleep, which I probably encouraged-

me during the entire period of radio silence, anxiously clutching my phone: TAYLOR. TAYLOR WAKE UP. TAYLOR I’M WORRIED AND I NEED TO KNOW YOU’RE STILL ALIVE AND ALSO THAT MY ADVICE DIDN’T GET YOU KILLED AGAIN. TAYLOR!!

Started playing Lifeline yesterday and, uh, my advice got Taylor killed ON THE FIRST DAY 😫

(in my defense, my Googling indicated that yes 150 rads would be super bad for you! but, uh, not as immediately bad I guess??)

Tried it out because it has Apple Watch support and I found the idea to interact with a game through notifications on my watch rather intriguing. Funnily enough it kinda added to the overall atmosphere, though eventually I mostly played it on the phone in the end. Interesting concept and entertaining enough, I'll play more parts of the series.

What a breath of fresh air for mobile gaming! Fundamentally a text adventure with (slightly) branching paths, the novelty lies in the fact that the game runs in real time in the background of your phone. If the main character needs to walk for a couple of hours, well, you're going to have to wait for a couple of hours until they respond. It's perfect for playing throughout the day in bits and pieces. I also found myself getting surprisingly attached to the protagonist as the game progressed. The writing is well done and frequently quite witty. All in all, a great little experience.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to. Like I've said before, I like games like this. Games that are mainly there to tell a story and don't really have many mechanics. I wasn't sure if the character was going to grow on me. Some of her dialogue just didn't hit the mark, but it ended up being that those missteps were few enough that Taylor still ended up feeling believable. I'll likely eventually play the sequel to this story, but not Lifeline 2, which forgoes scifi for fantasy.

Didn't do multiple play throughs, and probably won't. Even with the fast mode, I think I'd rather just look up the other endings. That's just how I play games with branching narratives. I like to stick to my play through and discover the other options through other people's experiences. It's a cool little game. You should play it.
