Still pretty early in so I'm not sure how I feel about the game just yet. I am enjoying the general flow and gameplay loop though the story and characters aren't doing much for me at all so far but I'll give it some time. Initially I thought it was too easy even on Expert but that's only because I was holding it up to standard with Fire Emblem difficulty. I've quickly realized this is much closer to Valkyria Chronicles which I do like alot. I'm hoping both difficulty and story ramp up once I leave the initial area because it definitely looks like a pretty big game so far.

Glad I preordered when I did as apparently the shop I buy from has reached their stock limit for this for at least two weeks now. The game's not available in the webstore and most local brick-and-mortar shops. Can't wait to dig in. Going to take care of this Blastoise business first so there'll be no distractions.

Lol, I've barely scratched the surface of FFVII Rebirth and yet my copy of Unicorn Overlord is already here a day early. What a world.

The demo took me from being vaguely aware of Unicorn Overlord to basically 100% sure that I'll be getting it and relatively quickly after launch. What a blast.

Still have time left on the demo but so far this game is living up to everything that I had hoped it would be. Combat gradually grows more complex and difficult as more classes and mechanics are introduced to the player with a great buffet of class synergies, unit abilities, and skills to consider while maneuvering your army around. Great art, music, user interface, etc. Plot is simple enough so far but each stage scenario hints at more going on and more worldbuilding. No real downsides at all to speak of so far.

This game feels so huge. I'm playing through the demo and it's like they just keep introducing more and more new systems, each one more complex than the last. I'm so hyped for the full release.

The plot is super barebones "noble prince vs evil empire" stuff, and all the bosses being evil cuz of mind control doesn't inspire confidence in the worldbuilding. All the women have incredibly male-gazey visual designs, they lose 3 separate fights in cutscenes before the first …

The plot is super barebones "noble prince vs evil empire" stuff, and all the bosses being evil cuz of mind control doesn't inspire confidence in the worldbuilding. All the women have incredibly male-gazey visual designs, they lose 3 separate fights in cutscenes before the first chapter of the game, and the plot-relevant magic girl gets damselled immediately.

The battles play out automatically, with success or failure mostly coming down to rock-paper-scissors style hard counters, so it doesn't really feel like there's much tactical decision-making happening during fights. The whole real-time aspect makes everything feel fiddly and imprecise for no discernable benefit, and the endless waves of respawning enemies draw out each battle needlessly.
