A slice-of-life RPG set in east Asia, Spirittea is a story about a city author heading out to a mountain town to pick up inspiration for their book. In doing so, they find a magical teapot that allows them to see into the spirit world. Strange occurrences plague the town, and it's up to the player to find and appease the spirits by rebuilding their bathhouse and managing it to a high standard in order to allow them to soak away their troubles. This then frees up the townspeople, who will look to bond with you over food, games, karaoke, fishing and bug catching, giving you plenty of inspiration for your novel! Read less

I like the concept, but the demo doesn't really show anything interesting enough to make me want to buy the full game. (Tip of the hat, though: I like that they introduced an anti-frustration feature with the "meet the townspeople" quest, that is a very nice touch.) This is one that might have benefited from the BioWare treatment, where instead …

I like the concept, but the demo doesn't really show anything interesting enough to make me want to buy the full game. (Tip of the hat, though: I like that they introduced an anti-frustration feature with the "meet the townspeople" quest, that is a very nice touch.) This is one that might have benefited from the BioWare treatment, where instead of going in strict chronological order they cherry-pick a couple of missions to really put the game through its paces and sharpen the intrigue.

Spirittea serves up a creative and addictive (after)life-sim loop of attending to bathhouse spirits and helping townsfolk. The tools and menus don’t offer the most fluid experience, and the minigames are often overwhelmingly complicated, but there’s enough to do here that means you can dip in and out of things when you don't like them. Anything you do like, you can soak in for hours.
