Short, but fun, tactical game

A fun tactical game in the style of Final Fantasy Tactics. The story is minimal, but perhaps it is not necessary in this case. The game was surprisingly difficult. A fun tactical game in the style of Final Fantasy Tactics. The story is minimal, but perhaps it is not necessary in this case. The game was surprisingly difficult. I had to change my thinking, because a good result requires constant movement of heroes and attacking the opponent, as well as creating combination attacks. Sometimes every turn felt like a puzzle. It is impossible to save progress. And there are a lot of options for improving weapons and skills, where you need to make the right choices to be competitive. The downside is that the game is very short, which you are supposed to complete several times, each time unlocking new difficulty levels, heroes and other things. But for me the first time I managed to go through it to the end was enough, there are enough other good games that I haven't played yet, to have the motivation to complete this game again and again.

Metal Slug Tactics is a fun and nicely-challenging strategy game, but what truly makes it stand out is how it finds a way to incorporate mechanics from the arcade games into its gameplay by placing a unique emphasis on movement. Combined with astonishing visuals (especially during the epic boss battle), it makes for an entry into the franchise that's more than worthy and one that's worth checking out whether you're a fan of the series or not. After all, you can't attack a basket of snakes in order to sic them on your enemies and not have fun.

Metal Slug Tactics (Xbox SS)

Un claro Víctor type of game. Roguelite táctico encima de Metal Slug que más puedo pedir. El pixel art es una maravilla, la OST te activa recuerdos, tiene guiños constantes a la saga y el combate es muy divertido y combero. Me ha gustado muchísimo.

This is clearly heavily inspired by Subset Games' magnificent Into the Breach. It doesn't quite hit those high of that puzzle/tactics game, but what is here seems solid.

Metal Slug Tactics is still great, and I love how esoteric the later characters get, but a lot of the stuff you end up unlocking feels unfinished. Abilities activate erratically, one of the hidden bosses drops the framerate in half for no clear reason, and the final unlockable character has a special attack that just doesn't function at all. Gonna …

Abilities activate erratically, one of the hidden bosses drops the framerate in half for no clear reason, and the final unlockable character has a special attack that just doesn't function at all. Gonna shelve this for a bit and hope the team is given the time and budget to iron out all the bugs.

Finally got a release date for this, and it's just 2 weeks away! The Ikari Warriors are a neat addition, too, I know they've been in other Metal Slugs but this'll be my first time playing as any of them.

I think this might be excellent?

It's unclear if things will scale up well across the larger campaign, but the fundamentals here in the demo are mechanically fresh, dauntingly flexible, and make you feel like a brain genius. I beat it 3 times already, and I'm gonna go beat it again right after this write-up!

XCOM's 2-part, move-and-shoot turn system forms a familiar base, but the way movement and defense work is totally different. Sprinting across the map generates both MP and Armor, and Armor blocks shots from all directions, so hiding behind cover for pokey, protracted, back-and-forth battles is highly discouraged.

Instead, the focus is on clever ability use to level whole groups of goons, and careful positioning to trigger combo attacks from your teammates. Many of your abilities grant bonus actions or movement when used well, so your little squad of 3 can keep running and gunning across the map in these wonderfully elaborate chain reactions that last a dozen moves or more. It all feels fantastic, and if the full release can keep up the same momentum it'll easily be the best tactics game of the year.

Been so long since we've heard anything that I kinda figured this game was dead, but it's finally back and seems really promising! Eri's always been my favorite, so I love that she looks to be a heavy artillery unit with a high-mobility rocket jump.

Not really a surprise after so long with no news, but this sadly got delayed to 2023. Hopefully the game ends up being cool when it's ready!
