Standalone Expansion for Hexcells
4.01 average rating based on 119 ratings
The highs and lows are higher and lower than its predecessor: Some puzzles are way more rewarding and clever, others feel pretty baffling. It's a good game, but I would really, really love to redesign its UI.
This game is a big jump in difficulty over the first Hexcells but still stays in line with it, feeling a bit like an expansion than anything else (which is fine so much a cheap title).
I'm not very good at these type of puzzles and spent a lot of time looking away from it to reset my brain but this game took around 11 hours to finish with no mistake versus the 3ish hours the first game took me to put it in perspective.
This second game is 100% for people who A) loved the first game and want more of the same type of puzzles or B) liked the first game but wished they were more challenging.
If the first game was okay for you but you found some of the harder levels to be way too tricky then I think maybe you should consider passing on Plus.
I'm looking forward to Infinite but am also a little worried it'll be beyond my abilities lol. Same score as the first game overall,

Finished. Got the stuckest I've ever been on 6-5, was combing over every row for a long time looking for anything. Turns out I had marked one number complete when I was actually able to cross out one more cell from it, and crossing out that single cell led to a cascade that made everything else easily solveable. It was the only valid move on the board, really. It can be a bit frustrating when finding one tiny thing like that is what's needed to advance, but oh well.
Enjoyed the game. Gonna take a break and come back to Hexcells Infinite one day in the future when I feel like more.
I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the diagonal column numbers. It sort of gives me a headache having to tilt my head to count them out, and combine it with having to count a whole column even with big gaps, it's sort of unintuitive. That said, I like the game enough that I've been continuing anyway, and it does lead to some cool solving moments.
