The Touryst (2019)

The game was fun, and I really love the art style. The tasks/challenges are quite easy to carry out and the puzzles also not that hard. But there's a BIG PROBLEM. Some of the tasks require a very very very precise jump but the game doesn't have a feature where the jump just snap to the platform which makes it frustrating to play at times because it's very difficult to jump precisely on the platform. You will need a large amount of luck to overcome that type of challenge or you will die multiple times. The limited camera angle also makes it more difficult to clear the challenge. I have no more complain other than that. Would love to play The Touryst 2 if they're planning on making it

Total hidden gem of 2019, just finished it Developers Shin'en Multimedia (Fast RMX) seem to have mastered coding on the Switch as they seem to do no wrong. They manage to squeeze a fun and stunning looking 3d mystery puzzle platformer in 200MB and it's one of the best looking and hiccup free games on the console.

Need to knock off 1 point to the final score because, at 19.99, the price is a bit steep.

A total Indie Gem

Every little detail has a meaning. If there's a rock and you can move it, it can be used for something. Even if it's just for a joke. And this certainty it's awesome! These kind of attention to details, transform simple worlds into consistent and well thought realities, that you will miss when it's gone.

Besides, it surprised me how beautiful the art direction is! It's so simple and pretty, even not being the usual design that attracts me.

My only criticize is that I got stuck in some monuments - with the puzzles. The precision required, isn't always compatible with the camera and perspective. And I would like to have more options to expend my coins, so hard working collected.

But it's definitely a world that I would love to keep exploring it, and if there's a sequel I'll for sure play it. I recommend to anyone that like collecting little details and adventures such as I.

There isn't anything particularly new about the Touryst. There is no gameplay swoosh. There is no reinvention of the wheel. It is a simple small game with puzzles, platforming, and mini games. The puzzles are relatively easy. The longest I spent on a puzzle was probably ten minutes. The platforming is fairly basic and gracious. There is a section where you get to experiment with swinging on a rope, but outside of that it is just running and jumping. The minigames are fun, but none of them are worth particular distinction. They add a little variety and break up the action.

There isn't much to the Touryst. It almost feels like a throwback in that way. Except instead of a point and click or a sidescroller, the Touryst is a silky smooth 3D archipelago built for exploring. The chunky voxel style and the crisp sound design add to the good vibes. I don't know if I can say that it captured the tourist/vacation lifestyle, but it did make me feel relaxed.

This is a little game, but what is there makes me smile. I'll happily pick up The Touryst 2 whenever Shin'en feels like dropping it.
