The game was overhyped.

I feel the game was overhyped. The graphics looked great no doubt. But other than that there wasn't anything much noticeably different. Very predictable story. Initially I was hooked into the story but as it progressed I felt detached from the characters. The overall experience was so-so.

The best parts of RE2R and RE4, but not quite enough of either!

I loved this game for such different reasons depending on the protagonist. I thought I'd struggle through Grace's sections so I could get to Leon's, but I actually enjoyed them more than I anticipated, and it felt like being Claire in the RPD again (one of my favourite gaming experiences). I always struggle to enjoy any section with unkillable stalker enemies and there are quite a few in her sections, but I played through on Casual first so I could learn their patterns and of how and when they would hurt me. I imagine a second playthrough will be much easier, but I still can't quite get over the initial hump of starting as Grace with no weapons again. I kinda wish they'd taken the RE2 route of letting you choose a character's journey to go on rather than having to switch between playstyles, but as a blend of both, I really enjoyed it.

The ending was... well, without spoilers, it felt a little cheap when it boiled down to Choice A or Choice B, and one of them was the Bad Ending and one of them was the Good Ending. I would have preferred the ending to be a result of the choices I'd like along the way rather than which button to press in the final cutscene. But it does advance the story in interesting and meaningful ways, and I'm curious where they'll go from here. Hope there's DLC on the way!
