The Windows version, released in December 1996, featured the uncensored footage from the Japanese version, and the opening intro is in full color rather than black and white. It is the only version of Resident Evil that has all of the uncensored full motion video (FMV) sequences, which includes the uncensored introduction, Kenneth's death scene in its entirety, and ending.

Finally decided to play the pre-2003 RE games, starting with this. I was going to skip it in favor of the remake, but the Classic Rebirth patch convinced me to give it a try.

Unfortunately, it's a bit of a bother to install. Fortunately, the team behind BioRand, a randomizer for these games, has a prepacked version. Two, in fact, one with the original pixelated graphics and another one with AI-enhanced™ HD graphixxxx. Best of all, you don't even need to interact with the randomizer part of the pack.

Personally, I prefer the AI-enhanced one, they do look wonky at times, especially when complex pictures are involved, but they mesh together better with the HD 3D models of the PC version of the game.
