Broken Steel

3.153.15 average user rating based on 20 reviews

The 3rd DLC for PC is the most essential DLC to get as it changes the original "end-game" for Fallout 3 to not end. Now you get to work with the Brotherhood of Steel to purge the Enclave from the Wastes once and for all! Additionally you can level from 20 (original cap) to 30 (new cap).

I'm struggling with rating this one. The campaign it comes with is short and combat heavy, with no meaningful decisions as far as I saw. But it does raise the level cap to 30 and adds perks and some other random quests...ugh...I don't know. In one way it breathes new life into the game, and if played with the GOTY edition with all DLC enabled, you can play through all the DLC still gaining XP and perks. That makes the DLC more fun to me, since there's a reason to kill enemies, open locks I'd skip etc.

But I don't know. It all just feels...hollow? It did its job right, but something is missing. But all these DLCs highlight the shortcomings of Fallout 3's design as a whole. There is something critical missing from its core and I cannot place what it is. This is a conversation better suited to my feelings on the whole game, so I'll save it for there.
