I first played this game when it came out 6 years ago. Since then I haven't touched it until recently. I just did my 2nd playthrough and it holds up incredibly well. The gameplay still feels just as tense and brutal as when I first played it. The story is still as thought provoking and resonating. The relationship between Joel and Ellie is so well realised and nuanced. I'm glad replayed it.

Hi. I try as hard as I can to respect everybody's opinions and be open to opposite arguments. But there's something that's been bugging me for quite some time that I wanna get off my chest: I just can't help but think that The Last of Us is overrated. I don't mean it's a bad game -- not at all. It's definitely a good game, but (to me, at least) not as good as what the media says it is.
I mean, the story and the characters are quite generic. The only likable/relatable characters in the whole game are Ellie and Joel. And Joel's likability owes itself to his macho appearance and phenomenal voice acting rather than his personality or character arc. His actions seem inconsistent and just plain random.
The game has limited gameplay mechanics. Most of the game is spent walking, talking, and climbing. Stealth (which was supposed to be an important part of the game) just doesn't work because it is unfairly punishing and not at all rewarding. And the gunplay is not that fun either.
It does have its high points for sure. The dialogues and the voice acting are top-notch, and the game's graphics and aesthetics are astonishing -- even by today's standards five years after its release. The game's a technical marvel, but I still believe it's lacking in the gameplay and story departments.
So, what do you think? Am I the only one who thinks like that?

I basically always have valued gameplay over story, but this game has changed that! Not loving the combat (I've tried but never really gotten into shooters, please forgive me), but I don't think I've ever been as engrossed in a game's story as I have with this one so far (about 50% done). Im quite conflicted about this game. While this unique game has loads of potential, it kinda falls short on its delivery. In between its intense action scenes, its actually quite boring. Wouldnt really recommend this to all ages, as its not horribly gory or mature, but it does have some pretty bad scenes.

A great game, just not the "10/10" most reviews suggest. If you are playing on PS4, I recommend trying out the Grounded difficulty level.
