Holy crap Joel has to be dead. Just got to the point where he fell off the second floor balcony and ended up impaled on a piece of metal. I thought for sure he was done in the world TLOU takes place in. The segment that followed where you play as Ellie was pretty fun, even though I usually hate when games take away all your leveled up goodies. Her knife was almost unfairly effective, and I'm left wondering why she would leave it in David's head. If I killed 112 people with a knife, I would certainly have retrieved it. I stopped for the night right before we entered Salt Lake City, and I'm kind of surprised at how healthy Joel looks. We'll see if there are any lingering effects when I pick it back up.

I'm just about to enter the "building that looks like a mirror" on the ECU campus. I'm scrounging through the empty dorm rooms when I fall through the floor and come across a bunch of clickers. I'm just about to enter the "building that looks like a mirror" on the ECU campus. I'm scrounging through the empty dorm rooms when I fall through the floor and come across a bunch of clickers. No big deal, I start taking them out. All of the sudden I realize one of the big guys is around. I get scared because the first one I came across, back in the gymnasium in Bill's town, game me a lot of trouble and I died two or three times before I unloaded everything I had at him. This one? Two molotovs and a nail bomb. BOOM.

Except for brief stints with the GameCube and a Nintendo DS I basically gave up on console gaming after Sega messed up with the Dreamcast. But when I saw my friends play The Last of Us: Remastered on the PS4, I knew I wanted to own a console again. Yes, that's how much I was drawn to the game before I even played it myself.

It's easy to be disappointed when expectations are that high, but overall I'd say The Last of Us lived up to them: I really enjoyed the story, and while some people like to point out that parts of it are predictable, I think that just comes with the genre. The graphics are stunning, sometimes I wished that the world would be a bit more open for exploration. But there's also something to be said for tight straight-forward story lines, at least for the more casual style of gamer I have become in my mid-thirties. Speaking of casual gamers, I did find some of the encounters a bit hard, but they weren't frustrating enough to consider giving up. That said I think I'd have preferred slightly more puzzles and a bit less fighting, but maybe that's just me.

Overall I found this game to be very enjoyable, especially for its cinematic qualities. Maybe not quite as satisfying if you are a hardcore gamer, though even then Survivor or Grounded mode should provide enough of a challenge.

Update: The "Left Behind" DLC is somewhat strange. While it ties in nicely with the main story and the three issue comic book, it's rather forgettable in terms of gameplay. You might as well just watch a playthrough video on YouTube.

This still isn't fun to play and I'm 97% through it. Sure is great in every other way though.

Just finished this. Amazing game, really beautiful. I'm now stuck between what my GOTY is so far - this or Bioshock Infinite!

I've been pretty good about not buying games recently, but I might have to break down and get this one.
