Watching someone who has never played Super Mario 64 experience it for the first time is endlessly entertaining. She's currently struggling through "Wall Kicks Will Work", which is one that I've always despised. Nintendo were definitely right to make wall kicks easier to pull off in the DS version. She fell from the platform after pulling off the jump the first time and remarked "I feel like that should be guided" - a sentiment I can not disagree with in the slightest.

It’d be neat if they localized these. There’s quite a few of these manga series and not just for Mario.

I just flipped/finished up the game but I have not completed it for a lack of a better term. I got the 70 stars, and spun bowser out, and got some cake from peach, so not a bad way to finish the game.

This game was still wildly playable. Definitely a classic that is still playable to this day.

You got to flip this game, tech folk.

As with many nintendo/japanese games, save states are your friend!

Personally I like this one the most out of the nes/snes/n64 era so far, I still have to play paper mario. Right now im working on the duo legend of zelda games on n64. Then ill come back to mario, maybe.

I jumped into SM64 with my NS expecting a simple platformer but little did I know it was a world where walls hide secrets, paintings eat you, and even a plumber can fly. I jumped into SM64 with my NS expecting a simple platformer but little did I know it was a world where walls hide secrets, paintings eat you, and even a plumber can fly. As I made my way through the castle each star I got felt like Mario winking at me, "You thought that was easy?" The game is all about making you think you’ve seen it all and then surprising you around the next corner. I wasn’t just playing I was solving a puzzle with every jump and spin. I also played the browser-based SM64 on Super Mario 64 and the experience was amazing.

You could go into Whomp's Fortress and see me trying to do Owless. Go into Lethal Lava Land and see someone burning themselves. Going into the 2nd floor of Peach's Castle to see 3 people trying to backwards long jump. Are there any good co-op mods for other single player games like SM64 Co-Op DX? 4 players at least and I know that there is a co-op mod for the Ocarina of Time PC port: Ship of Harkinian.

I've had this game since 1999 (my fifth birthday), and now after playing the SM64Plus PC port in 2024 I finally get why people like this game, and why I never really did. Obviously I'm not going to expect Nintendo to nail everything on the first try and the game was still a technological feat at the time, but 60 FPS, a smooth rotating camera that can also move on the Y axis, and being able to collect more than one star per run of a level makes a night and day difference for this game. The first two points make Mario control for me the way I always heard people who really like this game describe its movement, and the last point showed me exactly why I always preferred Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie as a kid, because even then I didn't want to play each level 6 times in a row to get every star. Definitely recommend trying it out for anyone that hasn't.

Absolutely amazing game! It is so much fun I even learned how to speedrun it. The controls are a bit clunky but it was a perfect introduction to 3D mario.

I was intending this to be a full 120 stars run, but then I remembered red coin stars are a thing on this game. In news that may or may not be related, I'm now just happy with reaching the ending and stopping there.

Did Mario ever got wings on his hat in this game or is the cover a blatant case of false publicity?

Man, I hate Mario 64 with a passion, but last night I watched Michael from Achievement Hunter play through 4 hours of a randomizer and goddamn if that wasn't some of the most entertaining frustration I've ever witnessed. At least the game is good for something.

Dear Santa,

Please have Nintendo produce a N64 Classic mini console, it would be ever so much fun. If thy wish contains Super Mario 64, I promise (🤞🏻) not to throw thy young penguin off the cliff.
