When i heard a Guardians of the Galaxy game was being made, i wasnt too excited. The movies were fun but i dont consider myself a fan.
This game turned out to be fantastic though. They really captured the essence of the group and really polished every aspect of the game to a shine. The graphics, the narrative, voice acting all are the best in class i would say.
The combat is somewhat mass effect inspired and while i didnt love it, it was fun. The ability to customise difficulty meant i could tune the difficulty just the way i like it. I found that on normal difficulty the enemies were pretty spongy so i turned up my damage output. Very cool option to have and i hope more games follow suit.
In summary, this game is up there as one of the best comic book games ever together with the Spiderman series and the Arkham Asylum series. The developers deserve massive respect for this gem of a game and i look forward to what they're making next.

You know what...
This game was pretty tight!! Where to even begin?! Beautiful graphics, the planet of this game is top notch. The voice acting was phenomenal, I don't know how they license this music but they did and that's insane! The combat was not bad, the choice of not letting us play as the other members is interesting because with anyone else will just be slasher game. There's not really any thought to the fighting at all, but it works. The story and characters shine the most here. This story could definitely rival with the Marvel"s movies. It's hilarious and engaging and playing the action makes it better. The characters in this game in my opinion better than the ones in the movies especially Drax. The way we watch their team blossom is a sight, but I will say the story is surprisedly too long for me. I can talk for days about this game.
But play this game! It's pretty damn amazing.
So, when Mafia: Old Country is my recent experience of tranquility, this is of course the complete opposite: overstimulation on every level.
It has beautiful set pieces, though. It has a real good, nerdy, comic book loving space opera story and, although, the gameplay is just meh at best and it should get objectively only three stars, the Björkesque Mantis tipped it over. It's also the closest I ever got to experience Mass Effect 2 again ... but be warned, this is definitely not for y'all hipster vidya connoisseurs.
Here are the levels I liked the most:
Actually collected everything for 100% but kinda bugged out and two collectibles are bound to New Game + so whatever. Here are all outfits as proof that I tried (I'm sorry for diluting the 100%d term - but I'm old and things look different when being closer to 40 than to being 30):

Very cool game, but sometimes too difficult and illogical battles, especially the one in Jelly where you have to watch the stupid sequence a thousand times and can't even skip it. It’s also not really clear what you’re supposed to do. Game developers shouldn't annoy players with this kind of nonsense. In general, not being able to skip sequences is something I've never encountered in games before, and it's very lacking in that regard. Things like that drive me crazy.
While I know that the game is supposed to be great, it's just not for me, and in my first play I ran into a bug that made me loose that save ;-; Thankfully I got it for free from Epic Games, so I didn't have to pay to find out that it's not for me
Love the story, characters are spot on, art and writing are great, music is awesome... 4 stars
I hate the combat. I like the IDEA of the combat - calling on the team to do special moves, etc. - but the enemies are bullet sponges on EASY mode. It makes the whole process extremely unfun. Which should be the whole point in a game like this. 2 stars
Conclusion: I can't get past the clunky af combat in order to enjoy what was otherwise a fun game. Maybe another day, but not today.

ACTION-ADVENTURE - Magus is accidentally unleashed and threatens to consume the galaxy. It is up to the Guardians to save the day!
PROS:
++ The Guardians of the Galaxy. I was not really that familiar with the Guardians prior to this game. But after playing this, I fell in love with this rag-tag group of imperfect heroes. Their dynamic and interactions with each other was entertaining. And their personalities were so loveable and charming. Seriously, I love all of them and would pay to play a sequel ASAP just to play with them more! And I like that all of them had their moments in the spotlight, and that the focus wasn't placed on just one or two members.
++ Great humour. I know some may not like this game's humour, but I personally found it incredibly funny! I was laughing, smiling, and giggling, for the majority of the 18-hour campaign, which is very rare for me.
++ Impressive visuals. The game looks exceptional. Some of the planets you get to visit, and the sights you'll see, are so vibrant and jaw-dropping.
++ Narrative. The narrative allowed for some really emotional moments with the Guardians, and made me emotional too. …

++ Narrative. The narrative allowed for some really emotional moments with the Guardians, and made me emotional too. The theme of the story is letting go of the past which I think just hit home for me, because there are things in my past that I've held on to.
++ Side characters. Warlock, Mantis, Cosmo, Nicki and her mother Kor-El, and Lady Hellbender were all entertaining side characters.
++ Mood lightener. Simply put, the game made me happy when I played it. The jokes made me laugh. The characters made me laugh. The soundtrack gave positive vibes. The combat (though basic) made me gleam with joy, especially after a good ol' team huddle. If you want to lighten your mood, play this!
CONS:
-- Basic combat. The combat was a bit too basic for my liking. Peter Quill's blasters felt lackluster (his mobility was good though) and there were no other weapons to use, besides different ammo types that are not that necessary in combat. You get control over the 4 Guardians members' powers and it's quite fun, but the enemies don't pose much of a threat so it becomes mindless after a while.
-- Enemies. Yes, there are different enemy types but none of them really require unique tactics & skill combinations to beat.
-- Trivial puzzles. The environmental puzzles were wayyyy too easy. They required no thought to solve.
-- Overly linear. This is one of those games that I think would have benefited if it was slightly more open in its level design. There are side paths to go through that reward you with outfits and resources, but I wish there were more meaningful side content.
-- Overlapping audio lines.

At first, I was like boy is this game cheesy! And then later I was like boy is this game cheesy - I f*cking love it. Honestly, there is not a ton of "game" here. It's more like one of those games that's basically a movie with just enough thrown in to keep you interested. Also at first, I was thrown that the main guy didn't look like Chris Pratt, but then I quickly realized Chris Pratt is a douche so it's ultimately a good thing.
I will say the dialogue was decently funny. And from me, that's really saying a lot. I think I am going to miss all the bickering, which is super embarrassing to admit. (Don't be like me, get a real life.)
Guardians of the Galaxy leffat ovat mielestäni yksiä parhaita MCU-leffoja ja ehkä jopa yksiä parhaita scifi-leffoja ylipäätään.

A must play for any Guardians fan! Characters and story were all fantastic. Very fun combat. Overall a very enjoyable single player adventure. 8.5/10
This game is very broken. I encountered at least one bug every 30 minutes while playing, most of them minor, others not so much. The perks system uses crafting mechanics that "feeling tacked on" doesn't even begin to describe, being done with them before even halfway through the game. The combat makes a lower percentage of the game than it's usually the case with this "style", and sometimes fights can be over in seconds.
So why is this my Goty and one of my new favorites?
Plainly put, the narrative is the most fun I've had following a game's "traditional" story in years. These are my favorite versions of these characters hands down, and all of them get their time to shine and develop. There's literally uncountable dialogues and banter to have between the members, and for once I never wanted to miss it. It's so much that sometimes you have to stop walking just so you don't cut a conversation before it's over, they make it feel natural and enjoyable, whether you get a prompt to participate and a dialogue choice or not.

It's so much that sometimes you have to stop walking just so you don't cut a conversation before it's over, they make it feel natural and enjoyable, whether you get a prompt to participate and a dialogue choice or not.
And the narrative, in a move that feels completely alien to AAA games, specially with Square Enix as the publisher, actually affects the gameplay. Characters being angry with you might mean having to ask favors of them a couple times, with context relevant commentary from the group for those situations, or a choice you make might mean one of the guardians leaves the group for a noticeable amount of time. Situations that lack any level of "action" are played through with you at the controller, like trying to get through to a collapse Nova Corps phone number, with your companions shouting suggestions and even trying to sneak a hand in the menu to press options themselves (if you are not fast enough to swat them away)
Small moments like this that play with your expectations of this kind of title, and more conventional combat-less narrative sections were extremely effective with me, and as someone who was getting a bit tired with "prestige games" style gameplay... it was a surprise.
All of this is not to say that the combat is bad, or that I wish there was less of it, not at all! Combat is not very balanced or challenging (in the normal difficulty setting) but what it is is FUN. Setting up the different guardian's special abilities to make victories look cool, rather than just getting through them, became something I was actually invested in. There is a mechanic called Huddle, where you call for your teammates to huddle around you and hear them tell you how they're doing. Maybe they are scared, maybe they are having a blast... Whatever the case, you get 2 options to choose from to rally them up with a speech. It works like Monkey Island insult swordfighting did, one option is the correct one, and the other is the answer to a different situation just like this one. So over time you start to pick up which options fit to which mental states of your crew (I just wish there was more variety here) and then... Licensed music comes in.
This will change person to person, but the classic rock from the real world soundtrack that star-lord carries around made every situation where they used it 10x better for me. After you perform a Huddle, he will play his music from that moment until the fight ends, so you might get back to blasting enemies, full ability cooldowns refreshed for everyone, and "We built this city" blasting on... And I loved it every time. I even loved it when the song that played was "Wake me up before you go-go" by Wham, and I genuinely laughed out loud while I wished for the fight to go long so the song could play fully.
All in all, I'm in quite a dark place at the moment in my life, and maybe on a different time I wouldn't overlook the many flaws of this game like I do now. But I think it's easy to identify how most of those flaws are a product of the awful publisher the game has in Square Enix. Crunch, tacked on crafting, not enough QA... The fact that this AAA licensed game based on a comic made famous by the Marvel movies managed to focus on what's important and deliver an interesting game with great writing and a style to call its own... It's nothing short of a miracle.
And I didn't even mention how much comic weirdness they were able to adapt in a satisfying way! I really wish it wasn't Square Enix publishing this, but I feel like I have to be grateful it doesn't have microtransactions, multiplayer, NFTs... or whatever the fuck.
Played on PS5, normal difficulty.
I have mixed feeling about this game. Objectively, it's very good. Excellent visuals, varied combat, typical Guardians backchat etc. Nonetheless, a lot of the time I felt I was just playing along with a new Guardians movie and I did find myself comparing it unfavourably to the similarly styled Jedi Fallen Order.
The combat is well realised given the format, but there is just so much going on that I never felt completely in control and I never really felt in danger either. It's technically a good combat system but ultimately unsatisfying. I never really felt like I was carefully selecting the best attack for my teammates - just get them to do something so I can carry on with the fight. Likewise, I never felt like I did anything awesome with Starlord either. Just keep firing, do the correct elemental attack if I can and trigger Eye of the Hurricane whenever it's ready. In the end, combat was a bit of a chore. Might be better on higher difficulty levels.
The plot - it was OK but didn't really grab me.

It has the usual dialogue and action choices but these never felt consequential to me.
Overall - I enjoyed it, wouldn't play again, 3/5.
Started this a few days ago and it's the funnest super hero game I've played in ages! Well, I shouldn't say that because that new beat em up (Cosmic something) is awesome too.
The only thing I really don't like about this game is Peter Quill's voice actor. It's absolutely horrible and annoying. There's almost no emotion in the voice and the worst part is every first and last word of what Peter says is drug out. For instance, right before I paused to type this, he says "Okaaaay, okaaaaay, just getting the lay of the laaaaaand" Sooooooo annoying, ha.
Graphics are gorgeous on PC on max settings. It's a beauty to look at.
Really enjoyed Gita Jackson's belated impressions of this game for Aftermath: I Love The Game That Guardians of the Galaxy Almost Is
These bugs though... Oof. Graphical glitches have been a frequent occurrence throughout my playthrough, and I just had a team group-up where the subtitles were playing but no one was speaking, then everyone started speaking all at once, at like 10x speed. I chose my dialogue and everyone stood there for 90 seconds doing nothing before Peter finally spoke. The sped up dialogue was kind of funny. The needless waiting, not so much.
The gameplay is simple and uninteresting, but the vibes are 10/10. The soundtrack, the character design, the quips and banter, and the moments when the heartfelt love shared by this found family comes shining through. Eidos Montreal definitely understood the assignment.
Great game , i give it 5 stars not because its a masterpiece but because it does everything a GOG game should do , and thats great it had minor glitches and maybe the characters do sometime talk a lot but its a great game
Played through a bunch of the opening mission and was having fun before the game crashed. Oh well.
Also the characters were constantly interrupting their own dialogue. I guess because I was going a bit too fast despite not feeling like I was. Is that normal?

It was not perfect, but man did I have the most fun with (To me) the best rendition of the Guardians, while the gameplay isn't exactly "Triple A" or all that great, it was fun commanding the guardians as well as using jet boots on the battlefield
The thought of "The Promise" brining back the image of a lost one was beautiful and without spoiling much, the story really hit me with the question of choosing a lie over a bitter reality
Gotten on my birthday I was skeptical seeing all the talk of the combat not been good and the game being a movie if anything. While I may take my time before going back to platinum it, this was a beautiful experience to me and solidified my love for the eidos montriel versions of the characters beyond any other ones.
I cannot promise it will change your life as most people assume from high budget games and the "line up" from Sony and Microsoft, but this game was something my younger self would have needed, not understood, but would be in awe off.
While I gave it a 9 initially, I give it 5 stars year because it …

While I gave it a 9 initially, I give it 5 stars year because it greatly goes on sale and the company shut down. I am happy keeping the memory of this game in my heart as the experience that made me realize I didn't "Outgrow" video games
I have to admit that I became interested in the #Marvel cinematic universe quite late. Therefore, I first encountered Quill and his crazy companions 3-4 years ago. It was a beautiful adventure that captivated me. After the sequel, I was craving more. I satisfied this hunger by watching other superhero blockbusters from Marvel. However, only now do we get our paws on a game that allows us to join the well-known pack: Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot. Yum!
Just selecting the difficulty level made me chuckle! WE GOT THIS (easy) WE GOT THIS… PROBABLY (normal) WE DON’T GOT THIS (hard)
Wow! The game feels like being in the movie. And the banter between our protagonists makes us stop whatever we are doing and listen. Well done! I love it when Quill goes “pew-pew-pew” when we are shooting. Even the music continues the path outlined by the movies, and you’ll hear some classics from the last two decades of the last century.
We start by breaking the Nova Quarantine Zone and entering an area covered in some pink goo. Our target is a monster we try to capture and then deliver to Lady Hellbender in Seknarf Nine.
Having trouble finishing this game, despite being on the second to last chapter. It is feeling like a bit of a slog and I am disappointed in that.
The combat is just not doing it for me. Even now that the guardians have a decent array of powers they all feel fairly samey and are just a button mash on the battlefield to add extra damage. It is a pain to manage Quill and the Guardians in the heat of battle.
The dialogue is awesome and the one thing driving me forward. They insult each other, reminisce about past mishaps, and ultimately are very funny. Each one gets some time in the story to have a main character moment to give them a bit of depth. I love the MCU Guardians but these ones are even better.
One minor problem for me is that the MCU timeline is confusing me with the video game timeline, with certain events and relationships being very different. When the guardians talk about their past encounters with Thanos and what happened I can’t help but think MCU.
So angry at this game. The characters and banter are phenomenal. The combat is utter garbage. Feels like nothing but quick time events with bullet sponges. I got stuck twice on boss fights that the events just bugged out.
Fun game but only if you are into Marvel / Guardians of the galaxy. General gameplay is okay but too linear at least for me. Press E button. Now press D button and now press A button. The aspect of using the guardians is quite fun. However, the shooting gets repetitive.
The game often gives you a false sense of independence that may trigger some hardcore gamers. BUT the story and cut scenes are very good.
In conclusion, definitely pick up this game if you have any affinity with the Guardians of the Galaxy. If not and you like challenging games, it is better to leave the game alone.
Honestly could have been 5 chapters shorter and the game would be better for it. The story is good, it looks great and there's a ton of exciting moments so it's incredibly sad that all the unnecessary padding can make the game so boring so often.
As for more personal gripes,
I just met Cosmo. I am a simple gamer. I enjoy meeting dogs in video games.
