Just a heads up for those like me who are aiming to play through the Final Fantasy series and have to choose between the PC and Switch release of this. It looks like the Switch and PS4 versions of these have additional features not present in the PC release, including:

  • The ability to switch between the original soundtracks and the orchestral remade versions
  • An option to switch from the (imo ugly) "modernized" font present throughout the remastered games to a more "classic" pixel styled one, which for me is the main motivator to get this version
  • Ability to turn off random encounters at will (I loved this feature in my Bravely Default playthrough so I'm pumped to see it here.
  • Various cheat settings like increased gil, exp, and other stuff.

I'm still working my way through FFIV on the DS and had planned to pick these up on steam, but since Square has made no announcement as to whether these features will come to the steam release, I'm probably gonna go with the Switch version because these all look really nice. I just didn't see anyone really talking much about this and thought some people might be unaware, as I was.

This game/bundle is the reason we're switching to IGDB. First of all, this thing came out on PC, and that's not accounted for in Giant Bomb because they didn't even add it to their database until the end of December 2022. The release date should really be more like Summer of 2021. Also, IGDB has a list of games that are included in the bundle, so I'll be able to point to all of those. They also include all of the remasters as separate games in the database, which makes a situation like this way less confusing.

I'm still working on it. I have all of my API code built out and working. I'm just slowly building out the database infrastructure on the Grouvee side to account for all of the stuff we're going to need. There's also the whole merging games together, but we'll figure that out as we go :)

Of course this comes out after I finish them on other platforms. And after I bought the buggy, hard to control 6 on iPhone. This might be the first FF thing I skip in a long time...
