Hard mode done, including the "good" ending, which is kind of lame.

Hard mode was quite uneven in terms of balance. Random enemies in general felt just too tanky, while early bosses were relatively easy.

Then, from "unidentified nativa" onwards, the bosses were extremely spongey and hit like a locomotive. Every other Providence attack was a one-hit-kill.

Attack balance felt also off. Special moves did almost no damage, while the simple range Beta attack melted their health bar (relatively speaking) and had massive knockback that could essentially stunlock bosses until I ran out of juice.

That meant that playing "fun" by mastering perfect dodge and parries and performing counters weren't effective compared with just spamming range attack, hitting light combos to charge up the Beta gauge and repeating over and over again.

I finished the game last night and got a bad? ending because apparently I hadn't done enough specific random quests that increased a "lily bar" that I didn't even know was a thing. I liked the game enough that I might be tempted to do a NG+, but the good ending with an extra mission probably requries some tedious sidequesting. …

This is ridiculous. I'm supposed to be on a space elevator which can only be located on the equator and I can see a frigid landscape out the window?

So the game finally officially dropped the reveal that Naytibas are the original humans and that we are the androids. Every character was shocked but it didn't land because the game had already confirmed it via lore and diary entries found all over the world. And also the fact that all the characters are obviously androids.

That's a long-winded way of saying that the plot is pretty dumb and is horribly told and paced. But I am enjoying the combat and some aspects of the exploration (although it would be nice if after exploring a big desert open area the game didn't open up yet another big desert open area).

Also, this game has one of the most satisfying double jump animations. I love how Eve does a big pirouette and that it has different animations.

I wonder what's going on with the English accents here. Is it deliberate to show the divergence between the Colony and Earth? Does the original Korean VA also use accents in that way? The Spanish dub doesn't seem to play with that.

The level is also not great; especially the strange combination lock that only are enabled after finding the code, but then you need to input it yourself, except that you have a Hint button that shows it to you, what's the point in that?

However, after the demo is done, it opens a "boss mode" where you fight a boss with almost all abilities unlocked. That was much more fun. I could see how the combat could become interesting, fluid and challenging. Lot's of different counters to different types of attacks. Some attacks that are better to destroy shields than health, etc... That mode also added a couple of outfits (which, let's be honest, is also part of the core gameplay) that made the game more fun.

The game is great but feels "mid" at times. The pacing and gameplay flow could use some work. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if their next game was more linear—open-world fetch quests and "password-locked" chests that require backtracking are not doing it for me.

That said, the graphics, style, and combat are stellar, almost reaching Sekiro/Souls levels of quality. Unfortunately, the story pacing and boss/enemy designs aren't that great.

I’ve cleared about 50% but I feel like dropping it for now, 3.5/5.

I hope the game grows on me, world design and enemy design is so and so for me. But I'm still in the early areas of the game. I feel like it still has to open up.

And yes, I already bought the NieR DLC.
