Resident Evil Village is a first-person survival horror game and the sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The game maintains elements from previous Resident Evil games, with players having to scavenge environments for items and manage their resources. However, it adds more action-oriented gameplay, with higher enemy counts and a greater emphasis on combat.

Far from my favorite RE, but it grew on me

RE8 is probably not in my top 5, barely makes my top ten of the series… but after replaying it for my third time, it has kind of grown on me.

I really disliked how disjointed it felt on release. Each house was very different and almost felt like a cutting room floor compilation rather than a proper game with vision. That still holds true for me, and the difference in quality between Mistress Dimetrescu’s castle and … Moreau’s swamp… it’s night and day. That’s not to mention the Call of Duty ending.

But I guess I’ve just embraced the game’s absurdity. It has some highlights - I enjoy the village, the castle, and even the factory grew on me, but it’s still a bit scatterbrained and not anything close to my favorites of the series.

Still a fun ride if you can embrace its absurdity. Not really a fulfillment of the promise that 7 gave us, but not a total drop off in quality either. Oh also - I really enjoy the Rose DLC!

Here is looking forward to Requiem, hoping it nails the momentum that 7, 2 remake and 4 remake gave us.

Getting exited for Requiem

It looks and plays so good, it's just a little short imo. There's something about checking every nook and cranny for more ammo to blow up zombie/werewolf heads that will never get old to me. Really want to get my hands on Requiem.

Traiasca!

Much better than RE7, meaning it gave you some fucking time to be immersed, to enjoy things as scenery, slower paced gameplay.. you know, fucking immersion. The level of detail in this is astonishing and it clearly shows the amount of effort put into art direction. Concept artists really made their homework on village aesthetics, felt like visiting my carnnivore grandparrents in their mountain cottage. Superb effort by Capcom. Traiască, ce să mai zic.

Bought the hype but not my thing

I've never really been a fan of Resident Evil. I love all the culture and hype around it, hearing people gush about it, etc. But I've tried to play several of them and they've just never been for me. This one was no exception. I got maybe 5 hours in but it just didn't hook me.

It starts with a kick in the groin, fingers lost, hand recovered with "laudanum". Wtf capcom?. For me, it's same formula different characters. Nice change of inventory, but i still prefer the old one, rather than having another one for ingredients. Ok, ok, not here to complain. I can't take this game too seriously, the story, don't even get me started. I don't care about the characters or the story, i just go through the cutscenes for fun, appreciate the level design, same formula of puzzles, it's starting to smell like the other reskinned games that this industry has to offer. Ok i lied i did complained a bit. Playing through the series, i realised i play only for crafting, level design, art, sound, some difficulty there doesn't hurt. I don't care about anything else. Just give us 4 remake and re 9. Thank you. P.S.: 7 kicked ass in my opinion. Oh, and pressing button to automatically use knife on crates, it's insulting.

Comedia de aventuras
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

This....fucking blows. I was hoping it might redeem the stupid way the previous game - which was great until Chris showed up - ended, but alas, it's just gotten dumber. While 7 was relatively grounded, as much as an RE game can possibly be, this one's back to the usual dumb tropes and ridiculously over the top bullshit concepts the franchise has been known for for far too long now. This is SO bad. So so SO bad.

And here we have it. I finally finished the last game. One month and 3 days, and I'm finally FREE!

Having played the whole series now, it really feels like Capcom finally found the balance between survival-horror and action with the Remakes and RE7-8. Especially RE7, that one really was a step in the right directions and every RE game since has been absolutely amazing. One criticism I have is the fact we can't see Ethan's face. Hiding it has to be one of the stupidest decision I've seeing this series do, on par with releasing RE0.

Anyway, since I'll won't be playing another RE for a very long time, I'll just do my ranking here:

  1. RE2 Remake
  2. RE4 Remake
  3. RE1 HD
  4. RE7
  5. RE8
  6. RE5
  7. Code Veronica with a guide
  8. Revelations 2
  9. Revelations 1
  10. RE3 Remake
  11. RE6
  12. Code Veronica without a guide
  13. RE0

So... Yeah, that's it. Not much to say other than I look forward to play the series again sometime in the future. Especially the Remakes plus RE7-8, definitely the most fun I've had.

Very good, but crashes and burns at the end. Great combat and village exploration, but very weak story. The ending is totally meh.

Really enjoyed the Shadows of Rose DLC. Leaves kinda puzzled about the future of the series though (along with the big time jump at the end of the base game).

Started this a few nights ago and was surprised to find that Lady D isn't actually the main villain! In fact I've already done her in.

Also installed a flyswatter mod.

Does Chris appear more than just at the start?

I actually had a good time with this game. Grouvee doesn't allow .5 scores so I'd give it a good 4.5 out of 5 if I could. Its not super survival horror but more in vein like RE4. I did see a lot of comparisons to that game and I do feel it does fit that description.

Purchased the DLC and finished the other achievements for Mercenaries/Shadow of Rose. Was not worth the 20 dollars they ask or the $15 I paid for it.

I would wait till its either free or maybe 5 dollars maximum.

The story did not add much to the game and it was only 2 levels of mercenaries.

Just finished the Shadows of Rose DLC. Man that was ridiculously creepy, and I loved it. My one major disappointment is the end boss... they reused Miranda and I thought she had no interesting elements to add to the drama. Just a big stompy, screamy bad guy. The rest was great.

So this was a fun romp. The monster designs of the lords and their minions were fantastic, a great throwback to classic movie monsters. Of course it has the usual convoluted, bizzaro story but I liked that it was a bit more personal for the main villain; it wasn’t just all about bio weapons and taking over the world. The late game had a number of good plot twists and that led to a cathartic, large scale fight with a ton of monsters you could just mow down.

My big criticism is the huge info dump at the very end combined with a bit too much artificial mystery at the beginning. I much prefer there to be more fragmented clues scattered throughout the game as to the creature origins, and what is going on. Also the critical event that kicks everything off (as shown in the trailer) involves Chris Redfield running in and gunning down your wife without any explanation, when clearly he could have said two sentences to let you know what he was up to.

RE8 feels like a it piggy backs on the new ground of RE7 much the way that RE3 was a follow-on to RE2. There is a very similar formula, which is still fun but not as fresh. Ethan is captured by the monster family, manages to escape and then proceeds to run into the family members one at a time fight them and solve puzzles.

The opening scene was a bit frustrating since it felt like I was just running around trying to hit invisible script triggers. I died a couple times and it wasn't clear what I was supposed to do. I realize that is supposed to add to the horror and helplessness but it wasn't executed well.

For some reason I really like the Resident Evil story and lore. The slow reveal thru various clues about the strange chain of events that brought about these monsters and death, that only somewhat explains everything. This is mainly what is driving me forward in RE8. However, I feel like there has been too little lore after 5 hours in and I hope that will change.

I liked it. Liked it more than RE7. Still in the process of playing the Shadow of Rose DLC.

Pros

  • I liked upgrading weapons, it reminded me of RE4.
  • Did a good job of continuing the story from RE7. Also thought it did a good job of making me invested in trying to solve the mysteries of the story.
  • All of the lords have unique designs and levels associated with them. Each section felt fresh.
  • RE7 lacked enemy variety, this game fixes that issue
Cons
  • I'm salty that they let you sell ingredients even though they're finite resources. Game suggested I go to The Duke before I unlocked cooking and I sold a ton of ingredients that would've helped.
  • The difficulty balancing is a bit strange, there were a few times where I had a surplus of money just to unlock more weapons later on. The problem was it caught me off guard and I ended up wasting money on getting weapon upgrades for old guns (it's my fault for not selling off my old guns to begin with though).
  • Game kind of peaks early on. My favorite part of the game was the first lord's level.
